The King’s Virtual Spook

I think it’s fairly safe to say that the world needs more ROCK OPERA in it. So, REPO looks pretty good. Starring Giles, or Anthony Stewart Head or ASH (Grats on pronounceable initials), I recall in Buffy / Angel credits it was always Anthony STEWART Head, so I presumed but really, was it suspected we might think Anthony (Henry) Head, 1st Viscount Head (1906 – 1983)? That doesn’t seem right.

Having said that, sucks to be the non first sons or daughters of that guy. Yeah, my brother (as it turned out) is a Viscount, me, I’m a schlub. Oh, actually the non first children still get to be The Honourable. Which is nice.

The second Bond trailer ups the coolness rating, of which I approve.

So the t-shirts “Big in Japan” have usually amused me. Especially ones featuring Godzilla (or giant robots or other actually big things) but I’ve always been weary of getting one. It struck me as perhaps taking my egomania a tad too far. So I haven’t purchased one. However, I was IGNORANT of the 80s music in joke. How embarrassing. Perhaps you are as well?

Big In Japan, by German synthpop band Alphaville, was apparently pretty popular… in 1984. They were also the band responsible for Forever Young. Which I initially couldn’t cope with Des referencing, but have now come to accept. I also played the song a few times so I’d have some idea what she was talking about. PS, she had a birthday, woooo. MAN you need to check that video out. It is crazy crazy 1984 land.

Battle Without Honor Or Humanity – who are these people that come up with the excellent names for these things. I assume they’re the same people that come up with the “Underwater Lorry Suburban Mix” descriptions, but in addition to how cool that name is. It has an awesome intro. And in this ADD MTV attention span world 30 seconds is good enough (If you’re Dave, go ahead and include smutty sex joke mentioning 30 seconds… here) (and here). And yes, my favourite form of house music is still Handbag House. Thanks for asking.

Er, “these things” are probably songs. But whatever.

While my band name tends to be under pretty frequent revision (currently riffing on Apex Predator), I’m feeling pretty happy with DJ or MC Fictional. Either works. And neither show up to glaringly on Google. So I guess the time is right for me to strike.

Pirates have great PR reps this season. I know this because Pirates vs. Ninjas is still going strong, with both sides been popular amongst most age groups and demographics. OK I can’t back that up. But, popular amongst some people in some demographics. And in some other ones. And the point is, Ninjas – hired skulky dudes who spent their time assassinating people (aha, look I linked this up with a battle without HONOUR – Oh ho you thought this was random ramblings of an old man whacked out on PCPs, well you’re half wrong). while Pirates (even the cute ones with wooden legs and parrots) tended to kill the defending ship’s crew and or make bloody work of the whole proceedings. (Maybe, I don’t know. Never really met one / wasn’t around much in the Golden Age of Piracy) (That also goes for Ninjas) (And Nic) And yet everyone’s down with the Ninjas, and positively up with the Pirates. Talk like a PIRATE man. They’ve got a whole day dedicated to them, and they certainly have a flag (sorry can’t find a link to Julian Clary “have you got a flag” joke. Please insert it mentally for yourself, and smoke ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.) And yet they’re bastards.

To whit: The boat (full of tanks) getting screwed with off the coast of Somalia. And when I say screwed with, I imagine the sailors on that boat are scared out of their minds.

And yet we’re still all about the pirates. I know I am. Ninjas too.

I’ve wandered off topic again haven’t i?

Title of this post care of these books what I have read in the last couple of weeks: The Algebraist, The King’s Buccaneer, Virtual Light, Spook Country.

When was the Golden Age of Nic anyway? Action Fencer Man? Pirate Jesus? Bearded hippy walking the world? Last Tuesday at drive through bottle store? Hard to tell.

I prefer to think of it as not having been yet – in the works, as it were. Although bearded hippy was a fun stage…

  2. Cardinal Says:

    You mean Eddie Izzard.
    NOT Julian Clary.

Also, this post is all over the show.

  3. Luther Says:

    @Cardinal – Bollocks. Right, well… appropriate clip.

  4. Dave Says:

I want to know what happened to Talk Like A Ninja Day.

    That would have been quiet.

Also: Tim… STAY AWAY FROM THE CANDY.

  5. JamesT Says:

Still, if you don’t make it as the Viscount of Head, you could always become the High Prince of Booty

  6. Cardinal Says:

    Or Lord of the Dance?

Repo also appears to star Paris Hilton… and the guy who was Juliet’s father in Baz’s Romeo and Juliet. Looks awesome.
